Holiday Accomodation in Blue Anchor, Minehed, Somerset
Elsie is a GWR camping coach, she is located in a siding at Blue Anchor railway station. Elsie was constructed to Diagram C35 during November of 1917, under Lot No 1256 as a 57' corridor third 'Bars 1' toplight.
In 1957 British Rail condemned her in the December of that year and she was taken and converted to a camping coach in Swindon. At that time she appeared in all green livery and was sent to Dawlish Warren, where after the first year she was painted in the chocolate and cream colours she appears today. Renumbered 9881 and then later to just No 81. During the 1960's all camping coaches were given five letter woman's names and this is when she became Elsie.
Elsie was withdrawn from service at the end of the summer 1980 and taken by rail to Exeter. Here she was purchased by a member of the Home Counties Group and sent to the WSR, first to Bishops Lydeard, and then to the siding at Blue Anchor. She was reinstated as a camping coach here in 1982.
Purchased in November 2018 by myself she has undergone a full and extensive restoration. This was done whilst trying to keep as much character and original features as possible.
